Major Rookie - Major Rookie Schedule Forecast
Submitted By Kent Weber on Saturday, March 18, 2017
Hello Players and Parents,

Here’s the latest on our Calendar.  I will update this page regularly

Finally, here’s a few words about the commitment.  There is no question that playing competitive baseball in the summer is a significant commitment, in general, even with 9 year olds.   As you either experienced directly last year, or may have heard from others, playing for the 2008-born TinCaps is an unusually special experience.  With last years team going 44-2 and winning the AA Provincial Championships, we not only have a strong and deep talent pool, there is a big list of boys who are highly motivated and deserve the opportunity to stretch and engage the best competition available.  This years calendar and format is providing that.   Players selected will be competing at a AA/AAA level.   This really does require a priority commitment to baseball for the season.  Consistent attendance by the full roster is critical for team building and the chance to compete well.

There will be some lighter less-scheduled weeks in mid/late July and middish August, for rainouts.  The league calendar will be set the last week in April, at the LDBA Coaches calendar meeting.   I hope to take a very well-timed week of vacation with my family as well.   But parents please do consider other commitments and long vacations on your calendar, and lets talk in the next 2 days, if you have questions, or know in advance that your player cannot attend the tournaments listed below, for example.  With what this team is trying to accomplish, and with the very difficult choices of upcoming team selection that have to made, it is just not fair if players who are selected have lots of known absences.
Weekly Schedule (Mid-ish April through August)
On “Average", TinCaps 2017 Major Rookie baseball is a 3+ times a week commitment, most often involving a Tuesday and Thursday evening game or practice (6-8pm) and one weekend practice or game.  Occasional away games (greater London) may be on other week nights.  Additional (and optional) batting cage time will also be available.  Our home field (for games and practice) is Oakridge Upper at 825 Valetta.  Our allotted weekend practice time is Saturday 12noon - 2pm.  Though for the 17 Saturdays between May through August, we’ll be at tournaments for 5 of them, playing games for perhaps 2-3 others, and moving practice to 10am and/or location for a few others if scheduled tournaments allow or require.
Summer Schedule:
- approximately 24 league games
- approximately 4-6 exhibition games (Saturday single or double-headers instead of practice, mostly in London)
- 5 weekend tournaments
