Reds take Season Opener
In
the season debut for both teams, Oakridge took down the London Area Angels 7-4
on Saturday night, spoiling the inaugural game for the newly formed club.
Eager to abandon their disappointing four game preseason, Oakridge wasted no time getting the offense going in their home opener, as they jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first two innings.
Timely hitting and a great pitching effort was the story for the Reds, as they built a six run lead in the 7th inning, which was enough to get the win. Eric Rathbone went 9 innings for the win, erasing any worries of having a thin bullpen available on the night. His 131 pitch performance included a steady stat line of four hits and two earned runs, with two strikeouts.
Offensively the Reds were lead by Jon Park and Matt Bunoza, who had two hits each, and also combined for three RBI and three runs scored. All three reserve roster invites contributed as well, as Colin Gowdy had a key hit in the 7th to drive in a run, Greg Jordan walked twice and stole two bases, and Eddie Bunoza turned an infield hit into a run, scoring in the 2nd.
Oakridge travels to St. Thomas on Tuesday night, to take on the Cardinals at Emslie Field.
