Weekly Recap: May 19 to 26
Submitted By Oakridge Senior on Sunday, May 26, 2013
Oakridge went 3-0 this week in games against St Thomas, Byron, and Kincardine, moving them to 4-0 and into first place alone in the TVSBL standings.

At Emslie field on Tuesday night, the offense was the story right from the start, as Oakridge built an 11-0 lead through 4 innings. Capitalizing on some sloppy defense from St.Thomas, the Reds had great at bats all night, and came up with some timely hits to gain control of the game early on. Spencer Cleaver did the rest on the mound, giving up one run on four hits, and striking out three. Ryan Woods pitched 2 scoreless innings to finish out the 7 inning mercy. On the offensive side, Woods had a 3RBI double in the 4th that broke the game open, and also scored twice.

Saturday's home game at Dan Pulham Field featured a matchup with a Byron team that has played the Reds very tough in the past, and this one was no different. The 11-7 win had five different lead changes, with Oakridge eventually pulling away with a four run 6th inning. Eric Rathbone battled through 6 innings of work and eventually recorded the win, giving up 7 runs on 6 hits, with 5 strikeouts. Spencer Cleaver pitched 2 scoreless innings for the save, as he struck out three and didn't give up a hit. He was also steady at the plate, with three singles, and a run scored.

Sunday's trip to Connaught Park in Kincardine was the first start of the year for Kevin Lunter, who went 4-3 last year in 50 innings pitched. The tough Cubs lineup wasn't able to get much going off him until the 6th, when they put up 5 runs to take a late lead. Lunter left with a line of 5 earned runs, 6 hits, and 6 strikeouts, and if not for some bad luck on the defensive side, was in line for the win all day. It took a late 9th inning comeback to eventually get that win, as Oakridge sparked a rally after being down 7-6 entering the final frame. After a walk from Greg Jordan and a sacrifice bunt from Lunter, Cody Cleaver tied the game with a clutch single. Eric Rathbone and Kevin Dugal added RBI singles for insurance and a 2 run lead heading to the bottom of the 9th. That was enough for Tyler Rathbone, who was making his Reds debut on the day. In 3 shutout innings, Rathbone recorded the win, giving up 1 hit and adding a strikeout.

The weekend sweep moved Oakridge to 4-0 on the year, and are now the only undefeated team left in the TVSBL. The Reds now have a 2 week break before heading to Byron on June 12th.
