Weekly Recap: June 9-15
After a 16 day layoff, Oakridge got back into their Thames Valley
League schedule this week with games against Byron and St.Thomas.
On Wednesday night in Byron, the offense was stale right from the start, as Oakridge only managed to score 1 run. Adian Smith scattered 8 hits over 8IP for the Bulldogs, with 1 walk and 3K's. Alex Morrison was the lone bright spot for the Reds offense, going 4-4 with 3 singles and a double. The game was cut short entering the 9th, as both Shawn Riley and coach Myles Nimetz were ejected, leaving the Reds with no players left on the bench and thus the shortened 6-1 final score in 8 innings. Riley and Nimetz each served one game suspensions as a result.
At home on Saturday evening, St Thomas came to Dan Pulham Field with their offense ready to go, as they took a quick 3-0 lead in the first. Oakridge quickly responded in the 2nd with four of their own, including a three run home run from Ryan Woods, who also added a RBI double in the 4th. The back and forth game culminated with a walkoff win for the Reds, as Jon Park drove in Matt Bunoza in the bottom of the 9th for the 11-10 win. Jordon Satchell went 9 innings on the mound for St Thomas, and Freddy Farris had three doubles and three runs scored for the Cardinals. In addition to Woods 4RBI night, Kevin Dugal tied the game in the 7th for Oakridge with a 2RBI single, on his way to a three hit, 2BB night at the dish. Tyler and Eric Rathbone split duties on the mound, each giving up five runs, with Eric recording the win in the late innings.
The win got Oakridge to 5-1 on the year, who remains at the top of the Thames Valley League standings.
