OBA Championships Preview
Submitted By Oakridge Senior on Tuesday, August 13, 2013
Oakridge will make its first OBA Championships appearance in 2013, as they have been classified to attend the "B" division which is being hosted by the Port Lambton Pirates. The tournament will take place at two great venues in Vandamme Park and Courtright field, over the labour day weekend on Aug 30, 31, & Sept 1.

The Reds have seen two of the nine teams in the field this year, as they took on the Port Lambton Pirates and Corunna Giants as part of a doubleheader between the Western Counties league and Thames Valley league this past June. Port Lambton opened the day with a 2-1 win over Oakridge, which was a close affair that saw the Reds leave the tying run on 3rd base in the last inning. In the second game of the day, Oakridge took care of Corunna with a 5-4 win, backed by a 70 pitch, 7 inning complete game by Eric Rathbone. Port Lambton will open with their weekend against the Southwestern Senior League's Tillsonburg Red Sox, while Corunna opens against Welland, who play out of the Niagara District League.

Oakridge will see the Harrow Major Blues in game one at Courtright field on Friday evening. The Blues won the 2012 "C" OBA Championships, and currently have a 9-9 record in the Essex County Senior League.

Other teams in this years B OBA Championships include the Woodslee Orioles, who also play out of the Essex County League. There are also three representatives from the North Dufferin Baseball League,  the Creemore Braves, Clearview Orioles, and the 2012 C OBA finalists, Barrie Angels.

In addition to Oakridge, the Thames Valley Senior League will send three other teams to OBAs in 2013. the Kincardine Cubs and Mitchell Astros will both head to Wyoming to take part in the "C" Championships, and will face each other in game one of the tournament. Listowel has moved up to the "A" division in Kendal, after winning the "B" title last year.

The Reds currently sit 4th in the TVSBL standings with a 9-7 record, and are 12-11 on the year in total.
